This incarnation of The Ravens was founded by Jimmy Ricks and signed with Mercury records in late 1951. This group included Joe Van Loan (tenor lead) with Jimmy Stewart and Louis Frazier and also recorded as "The Ravens Featuring Jimmy Ricks" on Jubilee. In 1956 the group disbanded and Joe Van Loan kept the group name and records by the third incarnation of The Ravens are shown under The Ravens (3) who recorded for the Argo and Checker labels.
